Matt Bates: Richmond, Virginia, United States; Hello, My name is Matt Bates. I am privileged to be the pastor of Centenary United Methodist Church in downtown Richmond, VA. I have degrees from Oral Roberts University, Southern Methodist University, Duke University, and a Ph. D. in Theology and Ethics from Union Presbyterian Seminary here in Richmond. I am interested in the ways ordinary people in ordinary congregations can be faithful in their witness to God's love in their communities. My desire in ministry is to work with congregations in urban settings who are trying to be faithful to Christ's call to worship with excellence and integrity, welcome all people, walk with the poor and vulnerable, and invite others to experience the joy of the Christian life.
